SCQHA Year End Award and Point System

Listed below are the Rules and Regulations that members of the South Carolina Quarter Horse Association must comply with in order to qualify for year-end awards

1.                    In order to qualify, horses must compete in classes approved by SCQHA and the American Quarter Horse Association.  Owners must be members in good standing of this Association.  Points won by any horse will be counted from the date of membership in the association.  In case of partnership, all partners must be members for the horse to be eligible for awards. Amateur and youth points do not count towards the open all-around awards.

2.                    Horse must receive a minimum of ten (10) points in AQHA/SCQHA approved shows for points to be counted toward any award.  Points will be awarded according to the SCQHA points system.

3.                    The SCQHA Points Secretary will record and total points won by eligible horses as official show results when received from each approved show.  Should a show fail to send in the results of their show within 10 days, the management of such shows will be denied show approval for any show they should hold in the following year until such time that a fine of $500.00 is paid.

4.                    Points and standings as recorded by the Points Secretary will be checked quarterly by a special committee for accuracy.

5.                   All places will be listed on the SCQHA web site.

6.                    Champion and Reserve Champion year-end class awards will be given to each horse having met the qualifications in number 1,2, and 3 above and accumulating the largest number of points in each SCQHA approved class during the calendar year.

7.                    The following will be awarded at the end of the year in addition to class awards:

·         All Around Amateur Horse

·         Reserve All Around Amateur Horse

·         High Point Novice Amateur Horse Award

·         Reserve High Point Novice Amateur Horse Award

·         All Around Open Horse Award

·         Reserve All Around Open Horse Award

o         In order to be eligible for the All Around  Amateur and Open awards, a horse must have earned at least 10 points in three different categories.  Categories are defined as they are listed in the AQHA Handbook.  The Novice Amateur award is a High Point and does not require the categories.

8.                    Youth Activity Classes will receive points on the same basis as horses shown in the adult divisions

9.                    Points will be awarded to qualifying horses that have been placed by the AQHA judge on his card and verified by AQHA.  The AQHA Handbook will determine the number of horses placed in a class.

10.                 SCQHA points will be awarded as follows:  The class winner will receive one (1) point for each horse shown in the class with a maximum of nine (9) points awarded.  Each subsequent placing will receive one less point down to the last horse placed.

11.                 Halter Grand Champions will receive one more point than any other horse in his sex division. Reserve Champions will receive as many points as any other horse in his sex division with the exception of the Grand Champion.

12.                 Should a horse in the open standing be sold to another resident member, his points will go with him except in the case of a youth activity or amateur horse whose points are not transferable in accordance with AQHA rules.

13.                 If a stallion is gelded during a show year, any points earned by this horse as a stallion will be transferred to points he may earn as a gelding and the total will be counted toward year-end awards.  However, the horse will be eligible foe gelding halter awards only.

14.                Walk Trot class rules are as follows:

Small Fry—The rider’s horse does not have to meet AQHYA ownership requirements.  Any youth entering the Small Fry  class on a  day of a SCQHA sponsored or approved show may NOT enter any other Youth Performance (i.e., a class which requires a lope) class on any horse on the same day.  He/she may enter any Halter or Showmanship at Halter class.

Should a youth enter any other Performance class on the same day he/she enters Small Fry, his /her Small Fry  points earned on that day will not be counted towards Year-End Awards or Circuit Awards.

Once a Youth enters a 13 & Under Performance (loping) class at any SCQHA sponsored or approved show, he/she may not enter the Samll Fry class for the remainder of the year.  All Small Fry  points earned will be tabulated until such time.  He/she may enter any Novice Youth Performance class and return to Small Fry class so long as the Novice Performance class (es) are not entered on the same day as Walk Trot 10 & Under.

 Novice Walk Trot – any exhibitor entering the Novice Walk Trot class may NOT enter any other performance class (that contains a lope) on the same day.

 Open Walk Trot – any exhibitor entering the Open Walk Trot may enter any other performance class.

15.                Year End Award ties will be broken as follows:  the year end awards committee will first look at who showed the most days, then beat more horses, and finally placed higher.

16.          Lead Line classes are open to youth 6 and under.  Year end points will be accrued on the exhibitor only.
